Kiddies & Teens Craft

Kiddies and Teens craft is a mentorship program initiated by Vicalign International in collaboration with Flavour Craft to equip and empower children with prerequisite hand skills needed to strive in the real world. This program was launched in January, 2017 to empower younger generations of tomorrow. Vicalign International has since been known as the “pioneer propagator of kiddies/Teens Craft in Nigeria”. It functions as a vocational training workshop in primary and secondary schools designed to run through out the academic year of pupils/Students with a well structured curriculum to promote hand craft and develop their foundational creative skills thereby solving problems which is in harmony principally with the psychomotor domain of the Bloom’s Taxonomy of Education.

Over 400 Children have benefited from this program through their schools’ proactiveness to embrace the program. Kiddies and Teens Craft program seeks to enhance entrepreneur spirit, encourage the consumption of made in Nigeria products which has great potentials in contributing to the pursuit for high national productivity and sustainable economic growth. This also builds self confidence and leadership/entrepreneurship skills by allowing children to utilize their gifts and talents freely.

According to Conrad Burns “Vocational Education programs have made a real difference in the lives of countless young people nationwide; they build self- confidence and leadership skills by allowing students to utilize their unique gifts and talents”.

Okoye (2010) defines vocational education as a skill-based programme designed for skill acquisition at a lower level of education. It is planned to offer people the opportunity of refining themselves in their general proficiency, especially about their current or future occupation.

Necessary career skills that are required in the business world are not taught to students. We have had a lot of successful entrepreneurs who are changing and shaping the business world, for example Bill Gates, Steve Jobs etc. These people learnt technical and vocational skills which impacted and led them into designing technologies that provide solutions to the world.

Schools in Nigeria need not only introduce vocational education into their curriculum but rather see to its full implementation.By doing so, it will assist students to develop skills they can use in the future. Vocational training should be taught to children from an early age. That way, they can imbibe and nurture their expertise as they grow.

Vicalign International is in full support of one the reforms on the National Policy on Education in Nigeria on changes and innovations which states that Simultaneous teaching of science, technical and vocational education in the scheme of national education is essential for complete student capacity and optimum performance. Vocational education is the engine for economic growth in the country. Until vocational education is taken seriously in the educational sector in Nigeria, only then will the economy become better.

It is never too early to teach young children vocational awareness. This is what we stand for.

INTRODUCING DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES

This is aimed at introducing Digital Technologies to young minds, develop in them and broadening their horizon of tech skills in the four walls of the school learning environs and beyond for future benefits.

In the words of a Software Programming Expert, Mitchell Resnick “I believe that the best way to help people understand the world is to provide them with opportunities to actively explore, experiment and express themselves”. Also, he said “When you learn through coding, you’re coding to learn. You’re learning it in a meaningful context and that’s the best way of learning things”.

These are some of the things that will be done by the kids and teens to equip and improve their creativity: Digital Technologies; Coding: Games, Mobile App, Web development, Animation Programming, Robotics, Science oriented projects/Preliminary Engineering; Phone Repairs. etc.
